Change Control should be properly managed.
Managing change is something we should all be doing at work, but often changes creep into the schedule and before we know it, we are running late and over budget.
A simple change control list or register in SharePoint can help you make sure you keep on track of projects or schedules. I don’t mean you shouldn’t have any changes, but they need to be introduced in a controlled manner and then approved by all stakeholders, with full cost and schedule impact to hand.
You can run a change control register for any size project or schedule, they are easy to create from a saved template, and this means all stakeholders can see at a glance what has or hasn’t been incorporated into the plans, and if they are on budget or within the agreed time.
Sadly I still see this sort of work being carried out using Excel, then after a few weeks or months, things start to slip, as the key information is locked up in an Excel sheet, and when changes come in batches, this just makes everyone even busier looking at pesky emails.
